Restorative Tissue Therapy

RTT is a structured non-surgical treatment that helps in the early detection of gum disease. Early gum disease is called Gingivitis and is reversible with thorough and proper oral care. Comprehensive oral care should include brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once daily.

Gingivitis is caused by a build-up of plaque bacteria, which is why it is essential to keep up with regular dental visits and dental hygiene cleanings. Proper and regular home care is also important. If gingivitis goes without treatment, it becomes a condition called Periodontitis. This condition destroys your gums and the bone that supports your teeth. This is permanent damage and cannot be reversed without dental surgery and the leading cause of adult tooth loss is due to Periodontal disease.

How do I know if I have gum disease?

Gingivitis and/or periodontitis cause little to no pain. Common symptoms are puffy gums, redness and bleeding. It is essential to keep up with regular hygiene visits and at these appointments, a periodontal assessment will be done. If we allow for bacteria to remain or continue to grow and left untreated, this may result in bone destruction and possible tooth loss, This is why it is essential to detect and treat gum disease.
